The present document gives details about different heat transfer mechanisms with their related heat transfer equations. Furthermore, empirical equations are provided for the calculation of convective heat transfer coefficients for different heat transfer configurations, and as well as experiemental data are provided for some major heat transfer configurations applicable in practice.

Additionally, it shows how to calculate the heat insulation requirements of a new plant installation, and as well as how to upgrade the heat insulation of an existing plant being in operation already for a substantial period of time. A considerable data are provided for different heat insulation and lagging materials with their unit prices and heat transfer characteristics which make the selection of suitable data easier for the calculation of cost and efficiency optimizations.
